Bambino
Opera
“Maltz’s music is attractive... inventive musical ideas...”
Bambino is a semi-fictional, one-act baseball opera on a libretto by Linda Lee Harper. It revisits the relentless and terrible calamities inflicted on the Boston Red Sox for eighty-six years. The accounts of these misfortunes play out against the backdrop of Fenway Park's Green Monster, guidance and warnings from a spectral, baseball legend, and finally, the fate of one player, Buck George. To provide great wealth for himself and his beautiful lover, which will he honor... his Faustian bargain with sinister forces surrounding the World Series' final game in 2004, or the spirit of the greatest baseball player of all time?
