"Richard Maltz's Fraternal Symphony... satisfyingly peaceful and reverential... a mix of joviality and pensiveness... pleasant and accessible.
Lehigh Valley Music
Symphony No. 2 "Fraternal" is a tribute to brotherhood. The first movement, Chumley, opens with an inquisitive horn call that is answered throughout an innocent, fun-loving and rhythmically-charged sonata form.
The second movement is a whirring adventure down the fairway which includes an ominous hunt for a lost ball and a triumphant arrival to the green!
Gary's Song is an elegy for a best friend. It portrays the closeness of a loving brother, the generosity of his spirit, and the humbling experience of loss.
Rib-Roll-Aki-Oli is a set of variations on a song that spontaneously evolved over years among brothers, out of joy, laughter, and the love of life. The singing of it often took place while eating Chinese appetizers- spare rib, egg roll, beef teriyaki, and Peking ravioli.
